BIRCHWOOD PARK GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION COMPETITION AND ORGANISATIONAL
PROCEDURES JUNE 2014
Past Lady Captain
Bi-monthly usually 1 week before ladies meeting.
5 a year on a Tuesday evening.
The ladies section has seven pre-booked tee times on Wednesday mornings for organised ladies competitions. Each month there is a Medal, a Stableford and either two or three fun competitions.
Whenever possible social golf will be accommodated on these days, particularly for ladies :-
Whose Medal or Stableford has been or will be played at the weekend.
Who are coming back to golf after illness or injury.
Who are playing for handicap.
Who are prospective members playing the course a few times before taking up membership.
If there is more than one social player they will play together at the back of the ield; if there is only one on a Medal day they will be placed in the draw in andicap order and on a Stableford day will play with the last group.
On a Wednesday the monthly Medal will be played in handicap order, lowest Handicap going out first.
The monthly Stableford will be a random draw.
HONOUR BOARD CRITERIA
Five day members may play in all Ladies Honour Boards including knock-outs and be eligible to win or be placed second providing they have fulfilled the seven day eligibility rule of four qualifying competitions in the preceding three months.
If in any Honour Board competition there are less than 10 players there will only be a first prize.
The minimum number of players in order for an Honours Board competition to proceed is 5.
If 7 days before the competition is to be played, there are less than 5 entrants, the competition will be postponed or cancelled.
ALL WINNERS TROPHY
Full Handicap Medal followed by a meal in the Kelvedon Suite; 1st and 2nd prizes and nearest the pins. Play is in handicap order, lowest handicap going out first.
Winners of Monthly Medals and Stablefords from the previous year, January to December, all Honour Board Winners for the previous five years, and the winners of the Spring and Autumn Meetings and Senior Ladies Trophy, for the previous year.
This competition is also one of our EWGA medals so any lady member can enter to complete an extra EWGA round, there will be no entry fee for those ladies just £1.00 towards nearest the pin prizes and they will play at the back of the field.
Winner must fulfil entry criteria and be eligible to win.
Honour Board entry fee (less £1 for nearest the pins) to be paid into the main club funds.
Medal played off scratch; 1st and 2nd prizes.
Lady Captainsí Rosebowl Full Handicap Stableford; 1st and 2nd prizes.
Organised by Club Captain and Lady Captain - followed by evening event with food and entertainment.
JENNY GIBSON CUP
Full Handicap Stableford; 1st and 2nd prizes.
LADIES HANDICAP TROPHY
Full Handicap Medal. 2 rounds played over 2 consecutive days. Highest scores from first round go out first on second day, lowest scores last. 1st and 2nd prizes.
LADIES CLUB CHAMPION
Best six gross scores from the following stroke play competitions from the May to October monthly medals, Scratch Plate, Handicap Trophy and Flag Day.
1st Prize only.
The EWGA medal has replaced the LGU medal. Any club can play a minimum of four and maximum of 24 EWGA medals annually. We have decided to offer our ladies the opportunity to play in 24 which will comprise of, 8 weekend medals, 8 midweek medals, Scratch Plate, Day 1 and 2 of the Handicap Trophy, Flag Day, All Winners and 3 extra midweek medals. The EWGA medal year will run from 1st January to 31st December each year. The player with the best four nett scores will qualify for one of the Regional Medal Finals and will receive a winnerís memento from EWGA. Paperwork for this will be received during August.
ORDER OF MERIT
Points are awarded for all ladies club competitions: March to October Monthly Medals and Stablefords, All Winners, Lady Captains Rosebowl, Jenny Gibson Cup, Scratch Plate, Handicap Trophy and Singles Knockouts. If any competition is not played either on the midweek day or at the weekend that competition will not be included in the OOM.
Mixed Pairs and Doubles to be played off 9/10th of the difference in handicap taken from the lowest handicap player. The stroke index used will reflect the sex of the lowest handicap in mixed matches. Singles will be played using the full difference between the players. 1st and 2nd prizes.
MIXED FOURSOMES TROPHY
Played off Ĺ of the combined handicap.
Prizes ordered and paid for by the main club. This competition is followed by a meal in the Kelvedon Suite organised by the Club Captain and Lady Captain. 1st and 2nd prizes and five nearest the pins paid for by the main club, all entry fees to be paid into main club funds. Entry sheet and draw organised by main club competitions secretary.
All ladies Honour Board prizes are paid for from the main club funds but are ordered by the ladies section.
Entry fee for monthly medal and stableford competitions played on Wednesdays ( less £1 for nearest the pins ) must be paid into the main club fund.
With regard to the ladies competitions and ladies Honour Boards, should the need arise to change the arrangements, dates etc., the decision will be made by the Ladies Committee. In the event that the matter is of an urgent nature and/or not all members of the Ladies Committee can be contacted for their opinion/decision, than four members of the Ladies Committee (quorum) can make the decision which will become binding.

LADIES VERSUS SENIORS
Competition played twice a year on a Wednesday in April and October, organised by Lady Captain and Seniors Captain, occasionally followed by a bar lunch. Seniors play from the white tees format to be decided by Lady Captain and Seniors Captain.
SPRING MEETING AND SENIOR LADIES TROPHY
Full Handicap Stableford competition followed by meal; competition and prizes organised by Lady Captain. Prizes paid for from Ladies Section funds - entry fee must cover cost of prizes and meal. 1st and 2nd prizes and 2 nearest the pins.
Possibly team event at Lady Captainís discretion.
Senior Ladies Trophy for Ladies aged 60 and over - playing for the Barbara Fielder Trophy held for the year by the winner.
Organised by Lady Captain and Committee. Lady members may invite a guest from another golf club to be their partner for the day.
Competition usually Better Ball Stableford, therefore non-qualifying. Prizes all paid from ladies section funds, this event is usually fairly heavily subsidised by the ladies section. A ball sweep is held to raise money for the Lady Captainís Charity.
Competition chosen and organised by Lady Captain followed by meal. Prizes as appropriate for competition. Entry fee must cover cost of prizes and meal.
A qualifying Medal round held on a Wednesday in June, one flag for each of the two divisions and a party popper for each player to pull when out of shots.
1st prize for winner of each division.
Fun competition, Lady Captainís team versus Lady Vice Captainís team, each player given a drink to consume during the round. Format will be Matchplay singles or 4 ball better ball depending on the number of players.
ECLECTIC AND NETT BIRDIES AND EAGLES
Winter - October to March
Summer - April to September
Ladies may use nine rounds of golf to accumulate their eclectic score. If it is your intention to do an eclectic round, you must show that intent by signing the eclectic folder situated in the Ladies Changing room, prior to starting the round and complete an eclectic card. There are two divisions for prizes; one prize for each division.
Divisions to be split equally between the total number of entrants .
Nett birdies and eagles will be maintained by the handicap committee, prizes as for eclectics. When playing socially and completing an eclectic card please also put the score card in the brown box in the Ladies Changing room so the eclectic card can be checked.
BANK HOLIDAY AND CHRISTMAS FUN COMPETITIONS
Organised by Lady Captain and Lady Vice Captain, followed by a meal in the Kelvedon Suite. Cost of competition, prizes and meal must be covered by entry fee.
LADY CAPTAINíS DAY OUT
To be organised by the Lady Captain at a course of her choice, consisting of a non-qualifying round of golf followed by a meal.
To be organised by the Lady Vice-Captain.
To be organised by a volunteer/s
BURHILL INTERCLUB CHALLENGE
Competition held between the participating clubs in the Burhill group usually on the first weekend in September. Held on a rotational basis at each club, organised by the main committee. The team comprises of four ladies usually the Lady Captain and three lady members of her choice.
Three stableford rounds, one played at each course, each team consists of six ladies with all scores from each team counting towards the running team aggregate. Meal after each round, trophy presented after the third round.
Course hosting the final round each year becomes the opening venue in the following year, thereby ensuring that the final is played at each course every three years. Each team member will play a qualifying Stableford round of golf, cards to be entered by the host club.
Kent matchplay league competition held during the winter months. Draw usually held in September. Matches usually played between November and April.
Handicap bands 13 to 32, Lady Captain to choose team captain to organise.
Kent matchplay knockout competition held during the summer months. Team of three ladies, one fom each handicap band, 13-19, 20-27, 28-36. Lady Captain to choose team leader to organise.
